Five Valley Chorus has celebrated 40 years of harmony!
The Five Valley Chorus of Missoula, Montana, was founded in 1971 and is a registered chorus with the Sweet Adelines International organization. This chorus, comprised of around 60 core members throughout western Montana, meets weekly to sing and learn the barbershop style of singing. Members come from all over western Montana, including Hamilton, Stevensville, Lolo, Missoula, Alberton, Polson, Kalispell, Whitefish, Libby, and Great Falls.
To add to the excitement we have approximately 15 additional ladies from throughout Montana, Idaho and Washington who are exercising their option for dual membership. The combined chorus practices together one Saturday each month in preparation for contests and performances.
The chorus is dedicated to performing vocally in the classic American four-part acapella harmony, also known as barbershop music. Five Valley Chorus holds many Regional titles in Region 24 (the region included Montana, Oregon, southern Idaho and southwestern Washington) and has been privileged to compete on the International level seven times! This year, we become part of Region 13 and look forward to making new friends in Washington, northern Oregon, northern Idaho and Alaska!
Extensive musical training is not required to join, and it is not necessary to know how to read music. We sing, have ongoing education, learn choreography and strive for excellence. Each member sings as part of the full chorus, although some members form quartets to showcase their unique talents. Quartets perform with the chorus at public performances and shows and may choose to compete at regional contests.
